National Volunteer Week Celebrations today!

National Volunteer Week is an annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation’s volunteers. Thousands of events will be held across Australia during late May to say thank you to the 6 million Australians who volunteer their time.

The theme of this year’s celebrations is Give a little. Change a lot. The theme represents how the millions of volunteers make a profound impact in their communities and on society, through their giving of time.

BayCISS will be celebrating the work of volunteers today at our Castlefield Centre, 505 Bluff Road, Hampton with festivities kicking off at 1pm.

The Mayor, Cr Laurie Evans will be in attendance to speak about how volunteering shapes the Bayside landscape.

Our Guest Speaker, Ms Christine Craik, is the President of the Australian Association of Social Workers and the Chair of Project Respect.  She also lectures at RMIT in the Social Work field and works with women trafficked into the sex industry.  She is currently completing her PhD in the area of domestic and family violence.

Our own President, Bill Howley will also acknowledge the magnificent work of our own volunteers and their contributions to our community.

We look forward to sharing this occasion with many of our volunteers, supporters and donors.
