On the fourth day of Christmas…

Food Bank Victoria are an integral part of the strategy to reduce food insecurity and fighting hunger in Victoria.

Food Bank is Victoria’s largest food relief organisation, working with over 470 charities to feed more than 100,000 Victorians each month.  They also provide volunteering opportunities for individuals, community and corporate groups to utilise their skills in the fight against hunger.  The work undertaken by this organisation is truly amazing, with a ripple effect felt through all levels of the community – from sourcing food, food pickups and distribution, meal preparations and breakfast clubs, the positive impact from their ability to sustainably source and distribute healthy food benefits many.

To quote directly from their website, “Nutrition is important to everyone but eating well is especially challenging for those who are disadvantaged.  Less then optimal eating patterns contribute to…obesity which in turn is associated with increased risk of Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure, gallbladder disease, osteoarthritis, many cancers, asthma and a host of other health conditions.”

At BayCISS, we too strive towards providing assistance to those who need it when they need it and in doing so rely very heavily on the work undertaken by Food Bank.  With access to their organisation, we are able to provide members of our community with essential food items on an ongoing basis, however for Christmas, they really go over and above!

Thanks to their efforts, we can fill some pretty cool hampers with some Christmas goodies to enjoy again this year!
